Can you tell us a little about yourself?

My name is Aditi Abhilash, and I am a first-year mechanical engineering student from Orlando, Florida.

Why did you choose to study at Georgia Tech?

I chose to study at Georgia Tech because of its exceptional competitive teams such as Solar Racing and RoboJackets that make Georgia Tech feel like home as I build vehicles and more alongside a community of hardworking students with interests and passions like mine. Furthermore, Georgia Tech’s unique concentrations such as automation and robotics allow me to specialize in a particular area within mechanical engineering.

What has been the hardest part about transitioning to Georgia Tech?

The hardest part about transitioning to Georgia Tech has been staying away from home. Although, the amazing community at Georgia Tech has allowed me to adapt to the new environment.

How did you become interested in mechanical engineering?

In high school, I participated in both First Robotics Competition (FRC) and First Tech Challenge (FTC). I quickly found my home in the robotics room, dedicating hours to transforming ideas into reality by designing, building, and refining robots. My passion for robotics and my involvement in FRC and FTC played a pivotal role in my decision to study mechanical engineering.

In your opinion, what is the best thing about your major?

The best thing about mechanical engineering is that it involves a lot of hands-on work throughout the entire product development cycle. This includes designing, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing for various projects, from consumer products to discovering technologies in various industries.

What clubs or activities do you plan to take part in while enrolled at Georgia Tech?

Currently, I plan to take part in Robojackets and Georgia Tech Science Olympiad.

What are some of your hobbies?

I love to run long distances and paint.

What’s one fun fact about yourself?

I love mint chocolate ice cream!

So far, what has been the accomplishment that you are most proud of?

During my senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to organize an event at the Boys and Girls Club of Orlando. I was able to donate LEGO Mindstorm kits and build robots with them, helping the students find comfort during a tumultuous period in their lives.

What do you look forward to doing in the future?

I look forward to designing, innovating various technologies, and collaborating with other like-minded engineers.

What advice do you have for high school students thinking about coming to Georgia Tech?

Georgia Tech offers numerous clubs, organizations, extracurriculars, and even majors. Students who are thinking of coming to Georgia Tech should take the time to explore their interests to find the activities they are truly passionate about.
