Ansley Rowan joined the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering as an Academic Advisor II in February. She is currently getting ready for her first freshman class to begin in August and is excited to help these students start their journey at Georgia Tech. Rowan recently talked to us about her time at Tech and what her plans are for the summer!

Tell us about your role at Georgia Tech and what drew you to become a Yellow Jacket.

I serve as an Academic Advisor II within the Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering and love working with our undergraduate students! I was drawn to becoming a Yellow Jacket because I love the environment of collaboration at Tech and the opportunities our students can participate in. There is a philosophy that students are our top priority and I love that about the Woodruff School.

What are some of the highlights of your role?

My role includes meeting one on one with students who are new to Georgia Tech, in their first semester, and all throughout their academic careers. I love these meetings most, as they give me the chance to interact with students and learn more about the world through their viewpoints and experiences. I enjoy getting to know each student and learning how Georgia Tech is impacting their education, sense of community, and future goals. Our students are truly the best and I enjoy serving as their academic advisor during their time here.

Rowan's dog SammyAre you a Georgia Tech grad?

I am not a Georgia Tech graduate but feel like I have a home here on campus within my department!

Outside of work, what do you like to do for fun?

Outside of work, I enjoy walking my dog, Sammy, and hiking at local spots like Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield and Red Top Mountain State Park. I enjoy reading books that make me laugh and listening to music in my car with the windows rolled down.

Do you have any plans for the summer?

I just took a vacation to Seagrove Beach in Florida where I enjoyed the sand, sea, and sunshine and got to try new restaurants in the area. I am excited to welcome new Yellow Jackets to Georgia Tech this Summer during the Familiarization and Adaptation to the Surroundings and Environs of Tech (FASET) orientation where I will get to meet new students and teach them about Georgia Tech traditions and about the Woodruff School.

Summer Fast 5!

What is your go-to cool drink on a hot day?

I love sweet, iced tea! Perfect to cool you off or give you an afternoon boost of caffeine when you need it!

Where would we find you enjoying a sunny weekend?

You can find me on Lake Allatoona, just north of Atlanta, or out walking my dog at the Noonday Creek Trail in Kennesaw, Georgia.

What is your song of the summer?

“Higher Love” by Kygo and Whitney Houston is a favorite right now.

Are you looking forward to any of the big movies this season?

I am looking forward to seeing Fast X in theaters and I really enjoyed The Little Mermaid!

What’s going to be on your grill this July 4th?

I love a good homemade hamburger! The smell of the grill and fireflies are some of my favorite summer attributes.
