Megan Darling, lab and facilities coordinator in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, received the College of Engineering Staff Culture Advisory Council (COESCAC) Culture Champion Award on November 5 during the College of Engineering Staff Engagement Day.
The COESCAC Culture Champion Award is presented annually to one staff member from each School in the College of Engineering. The award recognizes individuals who contribute to building a positive and productive culture within their School and across the College.
Darling, who joined the Woodruff School in March, supports the Flowers Invention Studio and the IDEA Lab. She plays a central role in ensuring safe and efficient operations for students, faculty and staff.
“In spaces like the Invention Studio and IDEA Lab—where hundreds of students and faculty interact daily—culture doesn’t build itself. It takes consistent effort, thoughtful communication, and someone like Megan who models what collaboration, respect, and integrity look like,” said Jaeda Bennett, program and operations manager, in her nomination letter for Darling. “She has become an anchor of support for both communities, helping students feel empowered to lead while ensuring that our spaces reflect the highest standards of safety and professionalism.”
Bennett also praised Darling’s ability to create an inclusive environment where diverse perspectives are valued.
“She solicits input from students and peers… which fosters critical thinking for all and an improved willingness to share viewpoints,” Bennett said.
Darling’s commitment to transparent communication stands out as well. Bennett shared how Darling encourages students and staff to take collective responsibility for maintaining the space, helping them “own their space and contribute to the greater good of it.”
As part of the COESCAC Culture Champion Award, Darling received a certificate and a desk plaque. She will also have her name added to a wall plaque in the Woodruff School.
