Joi Outlaw, a staff member in the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering, has received the College of Engineering Staff Culture Advisory Council (COESCAC) Culture Champion Award.

The COESCAC Culture Champion Award was given to one staff member from each School at the Georgia Tech College of Engineering (CoE) Staff Engagement Day event, held November 13. The award highlights individuals who strive to build a better culture in their School and in the College. Recipients of the award are advocates for a positive and productive culture and truly strive to make a difference.

Outlaw, a faculty support coordinator, provides support to several faculty members and has been with the Woodruff School since 2006. Outlaw’s colleagues say she consistently exemplifies the qualities that make her a true champion of the organization’s culture.

“What truly sets Joi apart is her exceptional communication skills,” says Faculty Support Coordinator Tiffany Johnson in her nomination letter for Outlaw. “She consistently goes the extra mile, not just to meet expectations but to exceed them. Whether it’s staying late to ensure a project’s success or stepping up to assist a colleague in need, Joi leads by example.”

Johnson lists Outlaw’s dedication to collaboration, work ethic, integrity, empathy, and commitment to helping others grow as reasons for her deserving this award.

Johnson recalls a time when Outlaw took the lead in assisting her organize an event. “Thanks to her leadership, the project was not only completed on time but also exceeded expectations due to the creative solutions that emerged from the inclusive atmosphere she cultivated,” she says.

As part of the COESCAC Culture Champion Award, Outlaw received a certificate and a desk plaque. She will also have her name added to a wall plaque in the Woodruff School.

Outlaw also received the Staff of the Year Award earlier this year at the Faculty and Staff Honors, Awards, and Promotions Reception for her significant impact on the success and operations of the Woodruff School.
