Georgia Bio each year recognizes individuals, companies and organizations for significant contributions to Georgia’s life sciences industry with its Georgia Bio Community Awards. The recipients will be honored at the Annual Awards Dinner January 22, 6 pm to 9 pm, at Atlanta’s Fox Theater.

For new faculty, the university environment is not necessarily new but can be an overwhelming entity of operations during the first years. At Tech, many find their place among their peers on campus through mentoring.

To some, mentoring is a formalized one-on-one relationship with a senior advisor; to others, it’s casual conversations, relationships that form over time, or short bursts of well-timed advice.

At six home games each football season "The Georgia Power Professor of Excellence Award" presentation takes place on the field. The award recognizes one selected Professor from each of the six Colleges at Georgia Tech and is a perfect bridge between academics and athletics. Georgia Power representatives are on hand to present that game's "Professor of Excellence" with a $1,000 contribution to their College's general fund.

This month's College of Engineering Cares spotlight focuses on staff members who show that a little bit of passion can go a long way when it comes to hobbies. Candler Hobbs (ME) is a young aspiring musician who is in the process of recording his first album.

For contributions to micromachined ultrasonic and opto-mechanical transducers, and high speed atomic force microscopy, Dr. Levent Degertekin received the inaugural IEEE Carl Hellmuth Hertz Ultrasonic Achievement Award during the 2014 IEEE International Symposium which was held in Chicago on September 3-6. 

Students from around the globe competed in the finals of ASME's inaugural Innovative Design Simulation (IDSC) Challenge in Buffalo, N.Y., on Aug. 17. There were 13 students competing in three software simulation categories.
