Woodruff School Undergraduate Degree Program
Welcome to the Undergraduate Program at the Woodruff School. The Woodruff School is the home of the School of Mechanical Engineering and the School of Nuclear & Radiological Engineering and Medical Physics. We graduate exceptional engineers for a demanding profession, and to do so, we provide enhanced facilities and laboratories to create the best learning environment for outstanding faculty and students. In this period of rapid technology change, the Woodruff School produces engineers who are vital to our future.
Bachelors of Science in Mechanical Engineering
The BS in Mechanical Engineering at the Woodruff School offers an interdisciplinary experience with optional concentrations in; Automation and Robotics, Automotive Engineering, Design, Manufacturing, Mechanics of Materials, Micro & Nano Engineering, Nuclear Energy, Thermal, Fluid and Energy Systems. The BSME has 3 optional degree designators; the co-operative plan, international plan, and research option.

NOTE: Undergraduate students from both majors can participate in any combination of undergraduate research, study abroad, work abroad, internships, co-operative work assignments and the BS/MS program.
Bachelors of Science in Nuclear & Radiological Engineering
Nuclear and radiological engineers are concerned with the production and application of nuclear energy, the protection from radiation and the applications of radiation in medicine and industry. The BS in Nuclear and Radiological Engineering has one optional degree designator; the co-operative plan.

The faculty of the Woodruff School strives to continuously improve our undergraduate programs in Mechanical Engineering and Nuclear and Radiological Engineering. The educational objectives reflect the needs, and have been reviewed by, among others, the Advisory Board, the faculty, and the students:
- Our graduates will be recognized leaders in ME–related fields or other career paths, including industry, academe, government, and non-governmental organizations.

Undergraduate Student Outcomes
Undergraduate Program in Mechanical Engineering & Nuclear and Radiological Engineering
Upon graduation with a BSME or BSNRE degree, the students will have obtained:
- an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics
- an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors
- an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts
- an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives
- an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions
- an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies
