The George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering is ranked No. 2 in the nation, according to the 2025 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings of undergraduate mechanical engineering programs. The position is unchanged from last year, and once again places the Woodruff School first among public universities.
We are proud to once again be ranked as the top public mechanical engineering program in the nation and No. 2 overall,” said Devesh Ranjan, Eugene C. Gwaltney, Jr. School Chair and professor. “This ranking confirms that the Woodruff School is executing our mission and achieving our vision, and this win wouldn't be possible without our outstanding students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends. Together, we will continue to strengthen our impact as we achieve a culture of Inclusive Excellence.
Every undergraduate engineering discipline at Georgia Tech is ranked fourth or higher and it’s the second time in four years each program is concurrently no lower than No. 4. The College of Engineering overall ranks fourth, and No. 2 among public universities.
Engineering programs and individual discipline rankings are based solely on surveys of deans and senior faculty members at other universities. The U.S. News rankings are one indicator of the quality of an institution and can influence undergraduates, professors, prospective students, peer institutions, and the media.
Overall, Georgia Tech is tied at No. 33 nationally, the same position it occupied in the last edition of the Best Colleges rankings. Tech is ninth among public universities.
U.S. News’ 2024-25 edition of Best Graduate Schools was released earlier this year. The Woodruff School's mechanical engineering graduate program is ranked No. 5, and Georgia Tech's nuclear engineering program, which is housed in the Woodruff School, is ranked No. 9 in the nation.
