A research team led by Ye Zhao, associate professor and Woodruff Faculty Fellow, and robotics Ph.D. student Zhaoyuan Gu has developed a first-of-its-kind control framework that dramatically improves how humanoid robots recover from instability. Their approach increases a robot’s ability to regain balance by 81%, marking a major step toward safer, more reliable autonomous walking on unpredictable terrain.
